Using AutoCorrect to Enter Boilerplate Text

Do you have a phrase, a sentence, or even multiple paragraphs that you use regularly? Typing these bits of boilerplate text can be tedious, and it’s certainly time-consuming.

To stop throwing away those precious seconds and minutes, you can convince Word to store the boilerplate and then recall it with a few keystrokes. Here’s how to store and use boilerplate text with Word’s AutoCorrect feature:

  1. Select the boilerplate text.
  2. Select Office, Word Options, and then click Proofing. Click AutoCorrect Options to display the AutoCorrect dialog box.
  3. Select the AutoCorrect tab. Your boilerplate text appears in the With text box.
  4. If the boilerplate includes formatting, and you want to include that formatting each time you insert the boilerplate, click the Formatted Text option; otherwise, click the Plain Text option.
  5. In the Replace text box, type a short abbreviation or code. For example, if the boilerplate consists of your contact information, you might type addr, as shown in Figure 1.6.
  6. Click Add.
  7. Click OK and then click OK again in the Word Options dialog box.

To use the boilerplate, type the abbreviation you entered in step 5 and then type a space or punctuation mark or press Tab or Enter.
